We will be going through a paper entitled “Towards an easily accessible framework for the Ummah’s advancement: Maqasid based development.” This paper was presented at the International Islamic University (IIUM) during a conference on 'Maqasid al-Shar'iah and its Realisation in Contemporary Societies' held at IIUM from 8-10 August 2006. It discusses the challenges of societal development in the world through the lens of the higher objectives of the Sharia. It was written and presented at the conference by Fuad Ali, who will also be convening the session tomorrow.
