Maqasid and related legal tools in current Bioethical questions - Prospects and Limits PDF Print E-mail

This paper was written by Dr Anke Iman Bouzenita, Assistant Proffessor, Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, International Islamic University (IIUM) for a conference on 'Maqasid al-Shar'iah and its Realisation in Contemporary Societies' held at IIUM from 8-10 August 2006.

The Maqasid of the Shar'iah are its 'higher objectives', and have been defined in the past as the protection of religion, life, intellect, dignity/lineage and property (Ghazali, Shatibi). The concept has become the focus of increased interest in recent times, in a growing range of disciplines. In our efforts to nurture an informed Muslim science community, IMASE would like to present Dr Iman's contribution titled 'Maqasid and related legal tools in current Bioethical questions - Prospects and Limits'.
