Islamic Environmentalities

The Quran is rich in environmental values, ethics and responsibilities. The difficulty is realising them in our current political and economic situation. Given the modern ecological crisis and global environmental change there is much work to do in this area in the realms of theology, politics, science, and everyday practice.

Three projects are currently running in this area.

  • Fasting not Feasting is an ongoing transnational campaign to embody the spirit of Ramadan and counter the dangerous effects of consumerism and gluttony.   We are currently planning  for Ramadan 2011 and invite broad organisational and individual participation. See the microsite for more : www.fastingnotfeasting.weebly.com
  • The Green Your Mosque workshop is a community-based event through which the religious nature of human relationships with the rest of creation is linked to the practical rhythms of Muslim life.
  • Transforming the Halal Meat Industry takes an islahic approach to industrial farming, consumption | desire and halal meat networks.
